Ed Bird has been collecting comics for over 35 years. Ed’s personal collection contains over 3000 comic books, 50 of which are graded. He mostly focuses on vintage Spider Man and first appearances from the 1940’s.

His most prized comics include:

  • Walt Disney Comics & Stories 1: The most popular comic title throughout the 1940’s and 1960’s with upwards of 3 million copies distributed each month. This is the definition of a “kiddie” comic with simple stories and whimsical drawings of popular characters. This one in nice condition is worth about $20,000
  • Archie Comics 1: This is a pure comic Americana. Plus, it’s one of the few comics that you can still buy at a grocery store today. Early issues from 1940’s are pretty scarce. This copy, even in rough shape, is worth over $20,000.
  • Showcase 4: As superhero and other adult oriented comics hit a wall due to censorship and changing tastes, post World War II; DC comics re-imagined their superhero lineup starting with this book in 1956. A huge hit that proved the superhero concept was alive and well, which led to the Justice League of America team concept and the start of the Marvel superhero empire in 1960. A true milestone and great cover with Flash popping out and into your living room. Decent copies like this are worth nearly $40,000.
